June 4, 2017 - Regular Meeting Minutes

Oxford Artists’ Guild Minutes, June 4, 2017

Members were introduced with 17 present. New member –Ruth Ann Locke.

Condolences and memories were made for Dirk Van Oostendorp. It was brought to the attention of the Guild that Mr. Red Byrd has moved to an assisted living home in Pearl.  A motion was offered and seconded to move Mr. Byrd to emeritus status.  This was unanimously consented by the membership.

Minutes were approved from the March 25 meeting.

Treasurer’s report: Several members have not cashed their checks from the Guild Gallery and Double Decker.

A report was given from Lori about the Double Decker Festival. Sales were low this year due to location and that the wind forced an early take down on Saturday.  The Guild will not be assigned an area for Double Decker next year. The guild members will need to apply and pay for booths on Saturday.  There will be not be an area for Friday sales or demos. Members will be allowed to apply together for booths.  This was due to several issues.  Over the years other vendors have complained about our presence being unfair.   Our old area is also now being used by the double decker sales.  In addition, someone parked in the city hall area without authorization (no handicap tag) and offended several of the city employees while doing so.  There was a communication issue between the Double Decker staff, the police and city departments.  They were not informed where the OAG was to be located and that we would be using the building to store our art.

The Fall Show is being planned. The dates have not yet been set because of conflicts with openings on the Oxford Courthouse Lawn. There is an open date September 23rd for the lawn.

New Business: New officers were elected as follows:

Due to the changing nature and increased events of the guild, the board recommended the bylaws be changed.  The Event Chair will be abolished.  Each major event will have its own chair.  These chairs may be added or deleted as needed according to the events.

This motion was seconded and approved unanimously by the membership.
