Congratulations!

Congratulations to Andi Bedsworth! She was awarded a grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission. This mini-grant will enable her to professionally photograph her artwork and make business cards. Way to go Andi!

Spring 2013 Guild Events:

Youth Art Exhibition

Now through the end of May, local area youth have on display at the Power House their wonderful works of art!

The public is invited to attend a reception honoring these extraordinary youths on Tuesday, May 28th from 6-8.

Awards will be announced that evening, and all attendees will be able to vote for a favorite among entries already not receiving awards.

The Oxford Artist's Guild

The purpose of the Guild is "To promote and encourage the creation and appreciation of fine art and crafts."

Members of the guild include both fine artists and craftsmen. Experience levels range from students and novices, to professionals. Training levels span from self-taught to degrees in fine art. All artists are welcome.

History

Established over 45 years ago, the Oxford Artists' Guild is the oldest art organization in Oxford, Mississippi. Currently, there are over 80 members whose talents include pottery, woodworking, sculpting, glass fusing, metal and iron work, ceramics, silver smithing, basketry, jewelers, photographers, fabric artists, and painters with various mediums such as watercolor, oil, acrylic, mixed media, and collage.

The Guild hosts annual Spring and Fall art shows on the Oxford Square featuring musicians and children's activities. Many members also participate in numerous regional and national exhibitions, as well as the annual Holiday Art Market and Guild Show held at the Powerhouse Community Arts Center in Oxford, Mississippi.

Membership Information

New members are accepted only 3 to 4 times a year. The next jury date will be in May 2013. Completed applications must be received by May 1, 2013. To become a member an individual must submit photographs of his or her original art, along with a completed application form, for jurying by the OAG board. Hard copies of photographs must received for application to be complete. Applications and photographs of artwork are juried by members of the OAG board. This process is not to critique, nor to judge your work. It serves simply to insure that the guilds' commitment to the creation and encouragement of original art and crafts is maintained. Work created from kits or violating copyright laws will not be accepted. All members are encouraged to be active participants. This means that members are involved in the creation of “original” works of art. Members are also expected to participate within the guild by volunteering to serve on a committee. New members are admitted three times annually. To become a member, an individual must submit photographic samples of his or her art, a check for $25 (for first year’s dues), along with a completed application form, for jurying by the OAG board.

Applications and photographs of artwork are juried by members of the OAG board. This process is not to critique, nor to judge your work. It serves simply to insure that the guilds' commitment to the creation and encouragement of original art and crafts is maintained. All work to be considered must be original. “Original” is defined as the work must be the applicant’s in concept and execution. No work that is copied, made from kits, or mass produced will not be accepted for jurying into the guild. No work violating copyright laws will be accepted.

Please include a stamped, self-addressed envelope if you wish for your photographs to be returned. Otherwise, you will have to make arrangements to reclaim your photographs. After 3 months, the guild retains the right to dispose of the photographs and anything accompanying the application.

All members are encouraged to be active participants. This means that members are involved in the creation of “original” works of art. Exhibition: Assist exhibition chair organize and set up shows and exhibitions. This may include checking in artwork, typing or handing out programs, volunteering to staff hospitality tents at events, etc.

Telephone: Assisting telephone chair in phoning a set group of individuals to remind of upcoming events and meetings.
