History

Established over 45 years ago, the Oxford Artists' Guild is the oldest art organization in Oxford, Mississippi. Currently, there are over 90 members whose talents include pottery, woodworking, sculpting, glass fusing, metal and iron work, ceramics, silver smithing, basketry, jewelers, photographers, fabric artists, and painters with various mediums such as watercolor, oil, acrylic, mixed media, and collage.

The Guild hosts annual Spring and Fall art shows on the Oxford Square featuring musicians and children's activities. Many members also participate in numerous regional and national exhibitions, as well as the annual Holiday Art Market and Guild Show held at the Powerhouse Community Arts Center in Oxford, Mississippi.

Membership Information

If you are interested in applying for membership, please send your application in at any time.

To become a member an individual must submit photographs of his or her original art, along with a completed application form, for jurying by the OAG board. Hard copies of photographs must received for application to be complete. Do not send original art work. The guild is not responsible for damage to or loss of any original work sent.

Applications and photographs of artwork are juried by members of the OAG board. This process is not to critique, nor to judge your work. It serves simply to insure that the guilds' commitment to the creation and encouragement of original art and crafts is maintained. Work created from kits or violating copyright laws will not be accepted. Works must be original and entirely the artists in conception and execution. Mass produced works, copied works, or works created from patterns will not be accepted. All members are encouraged to be active participants.

This means that members are involved in the creation of “original” works of art. Members are also expected to participate within the guild by volunteering to serve on a committee.
