Oxford’s Biggest Baddest Art Show opens Tuesday evening, November 9 with a reception and ornament-making party for the whole community at the Powerhouse, (address). What do more than 40 artists displaying sculpture, fabrics, jewelry, mixed media , paintings, and wood and iron art have in common? Attitude, for one thing, according to Carol Dorsey , Oxford Art...ists’ Guild President.
“We believe art should be a part of everyone’s daily experience by either appreciating it or making it,” Dorsey said. “Art can grab you by the neck in surprise, or calm you, or make you laugh. It creates a universal connection that transcends language, age, and all those things that divide us.”
“The Biggest Baddest Art Show is the biggest and best show we’ve offered and features the whole range of talents among our membership as well as introducing the work of our newest members,” according to Suzanne McCartney, exhibition Chairman. “But it doesn’t stop there. We want everyone to join us Tuesday evening from 5:30 to 7 to make holiday ornaments for the annual Powerhouse Ornament Auction, which is coming up in just a few weeks.”
The Guild’s Biggest Baddest Art Show is an opportunity for us to showcase the vitality of Oxford’s art scene by showing a few works by a wide cross-section of our members, explained McCartney.
The Ornament decorating is not primarily for children although they are welcome and there will be materials available for them. Adults may bring their own materials or use those provided by the Guild. The Ornaments will be combined with those submitted by artists throughout the region and auctioned off during the Powerhouse Community Arts Center annual ornament auction on December 2. Proceeds go to the Powerhouse. Ornaments completed by November 15 may be displayed at Neilson’s Department Store on the Square until the day of the auction.
The 80-member Oxford Artists’ Guild is the premier association of artists in the Oxford area, with roots going back to the 1960’s. The Biggest Baddest Art Show ends November 29th.For more information contact Carol Dorsey at carol@caroldorseystudio.co
